The small village of Dürrenroth used to be a carriage relay stop on the way from Berne to Zurich. This explains the historic hotel and restaurant (two separate buildings), which used to host the travellers.
From the village, we climbed the hill and walked on a hilly plateau. Most of the farms were tucked away below the crest or bordered by dense trees, so we suspect it must be quite windy. About half way in the hike, we went down into another village, Ursenach, whose church has stained glasses dating back to around 1520. Apparently, their style is indicative of a limited period of time. A climb back up to reach the plateau again and we were on our way back, on the other side of the crest.
Un petit tour en Emmental
Le petit village de Dürrenroth était un relais de calèches entre Berne et Zurich, ce qui exlique l’hôtel et le restaurant historiques qui se font face et où les voyageurs se reposaient.
Nous avons gravi la colline et nous sommes retrouvés sur une plateau ondulé. La plupart des fermes sont construites en-dessous des crêtes ou bordées par des bois, donc cette région doit être assez venteuse. A mi-chemin, le sentier nous mène au petit village d’Ursenach, où les vitraux du temple datent des années 1520. Apparemment, leur style indique une période assez précise. Remontée vers le plateau, de l’autre côté de la crête et retour vers notre point de départ.
