Bern’s onion market

The onion market has a long history and many legends.  One of them is that, following the fire of 1405, which burned the city almost entirely, farmers from nearby canton Fribourg came to help. As a reward, they were granted one day a year to sell their onions in Berne. This market takes place on the last Monday of November and is a major event.
