Au pays des sardines
A 5-hour long hike in the UNESCO-listed natural park of Entlebuch, passing through meadows, marsh and karst fields. Then a last push to reach the top and walk right along the ridge. Another beautiful day!
A beautiful day’s hike from the end of a valley, up 1000m to reach the top of Pilatus.
At the summit (2130m), the view is 360 degrees, and offers great plunging views of the Four Cantons Lake. The Alpine panorama is also stunning: from the Säntis in the East to the Bernese Alps and the Eiger-Mönch-Jungfrau and the Wallis 4000+m all glittering in the sun.
It was an easy ridge-walk on the hill behind Ebertswil this morning. There were views over both Zurich and Zug. The path led through small farming communities.
The Mythen mountains are a popular destination in canton Schwyz. We hiked 800m up to the top of the bigger one. The clouds were playing around us and we had not even seen the hut until we got there.
We are back in Switzerland, returning to a house-sit, overlooking Zug and its lake.
We went on a shortish walk along Walensee towards Quinten. The village, at the foot of the Churfisten, benefits from a pleasant micro-climate and is accessible only on foot or by boat.
We spent 6 days cat- and house-sitting in Antwerp.
Carillions in Flanders and the Netherlands, lengthily play all kinds of melodies.
In Antwerp, besides “If you go away” and “The old lovers” by Belgian icon, Jacques Brel, we were quite startled to hear David Bowie’s “Life on Mars”…..
Being back in Oslo meant the end of our Norwegian trip.
The newly-built opera house is becoming a symbol of the city. The ramps on its sides plunge into the fjord and represent a glacier; they also lead up to the roof for views of the city. On the inside, wood and glass dominate, taking advantage of natural light. From September to June, there are operas, theatre plays or ballets every night.
We are not in the midnight sun area but we get “white nights”. Once the sun has set, around 22.30, there is a long dusk. It does not really get dark before the sun gets up again.
Different photos taken around 10.30, 11pm, and 1 am.
