When arriving in the new village, built in 1971, one has to look for “castillo” or “fortaleza” signs in order to get to the old village, a few kilometres away, entirely built within the walls of the fortress. The village is set in a natural park.
Part of the fortress was turned into a hotel and there are numerous holiday rentals as well as permanent residents, bars, a restaurant. It is a lovely and very quiet stopover on the way south, only about 20 minutes’ drive from Algeciras. Gibraltar and its rock, the Strait and, when the weather is clear, the mountains of Morocco are visible from there.

En arrivant dans le nouveau village, construit en 1971, il faut suivre les panneaux “castillo” ou “fortaleza” pour arriver dans le vieux village, entièrement abrité dans la forteresse. Le village est situé au milieu d’un parc naturel.
Une partie de la forteresse a été transformée en hôtel et il y a plusieurs maisons de vacances, des résidents permanents, bars et un restaurant. Il est idéal d’y passer une nuit tranquille en route pour le sud à une vingtaine de minutes d’Algeciras. Gibraltar et son rocher, le détroit et, par temps clair, les montagnes du Maroc sont visibles de là.
