Valencia was known as the ugly duckling of Spain for a long time. A port city with industries, it was a working town, in spite of its beaches to the north and natural areas to the south.
Week-end tourism and cheap flights have changed this and different parts of the city have seen building renovations and gentrification. One such neighbourhood is Ruzafa, next to the Norte train station, which has become trendy. We walked along a couple of streets (Carrer Sueca and Carrer Cuba), which are considered a good illustration of the gentrifiication of this part of town.
Valence a longtemps été considérée comme le vilain petit canard d’Espagne. Ville portuaire et industrielle, elle n’attirait que peu les touristes, malgré ses plages au nord et une zone naturelle au sud.
Les vols bon marché et week-ends évasion ont changé la donne et la ville s’est régénérée. Ruzafa, proche du centre, est devenu très tendance, avec de nombreux bars et restaurant. Beaucoup de ses bâtiments ont été retapés et le quartier s’est gentrifié. Nous nous sommes promenés dans deux rues (Carrer Sueca and Carrer Cuba) qui illustrent bien le phénomène.
